Worming & Fleas

Routine worming represents not only good health care, but can also prevent potentially fatal conditions such as lungworm in dogs, ‘gid’ cysts in people or even roundworm burdens in puppies or kittens that are so heavy as to cause a blockage of the bowel. There are many types of worms that can affect your pet, and so giving the right product that will treat all these worms and their different life stages is very important.

We are happy to provide advice on the appropriate worming product, dose and frequency of treatment for your pet.  This advice will be tailored to your situation and your animal – our recommendations will vary for instance from a house cat to a semi-feral moggy who spends his nights hunting mice, or from a farm collie to a prime show poodle.

We have a range of products that can be administered by dropper to save a visit to the A & E Department yourself after trying to give a tablet, but if you ask nicely, the nurses will even give your pet their worm medication for free!

Control Of Fleas, Ticks And Other External Parasites

Almost all dogs and cats will suffer from a flea infestation at some point in their lives. Most of the flea population is in the form of larvae, pupae and eggs in the environment (i.e. their bedding and your home) and so will readily re-infest your pet. Prevention is the most effective approach to flea control. We can offer advice on which of the many different products available is suitable to treat your pet and your home.

In addition, we can offer advice on the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of infestation with less common external parasites such as ticks, mange mites, harvest mites or ‘walking dandruff’.
